Does it sometimes feel like you are outnumbered? Do you feel pressure from the people
around you, who try to make you feel like God will not come through for you? Elijah
the prophet faced a similar situation. He challenged the prophets of the false god,
Baal, to a showdown on Mount Carmel. Surrounded by his enemies, Elijah built an
altar and prepared two bullocks, one for him and one for Baal’s prophets. The prophets
placed their bullock on the altar and cried out to Baal from morning till noon, pleading
with him to light their sacrifice on fire. Nothing happened. Then came Elijah’s
turn. He placed his bullock on the altar, and had the people saturate it with water.
Elijah said one simple prayer to God and, immediately, God sent fire from Heaven.
The fire not only consumed the sacrifice, but the altar and the water, too. Elijah
demonstrated that, even though it looked like he was outnumbered, God was with him,
and that made him the majority. Your situation may look hopeless and it may seem
like your enemy has the advantage over you. But keep trusting God, because He is
the One Who will answer by fire.
