Abraham’s Inheritance

Genesis 14:18-20, 15:1-5-“And Melchizedek…was the priest of the most high God…And [Abram] gave him tithes of all…After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward…Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.”

Abraham paid tithes to King Melchizedek, who was the priest of God. When he did this, God appeared to Abraham and told him that God was his shield and his exceeding great reward. God also promised Abraham that he and his wife would have a son and that their descendants would be as numerous as the stars. Mary’s Ointment

Matthew 26:7-13-“There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head…[Jesus] said unto them,…Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.”

Mary emptied an entire alabaster box of ointment onto Jesus’ head. The ointment that she poured was the kind used to prepare the dead for burial. By pouring this ointment onto Jesus’ head, Mary was foretelling His death. Mary’s act so moved Jesus that He commanded that, wherever the Gospel is preached, what she did should also be shared as a memorial to her. Cornelius’ Memorial

Acts 10:2-4-“[Cornelius was] a devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always. He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius…Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.”

Cornelius was faithful in his praying and giving to God. Because of this, an angel of God appeared to him and told him that God had taken note of his prayers and his alms, regarding them as a memorial to Cornelius. Solomon’s Sacrifice

I Kings 3:4-5, 9:1-3; II Chronicles 7:11-12-“And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there…a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar. In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee…And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the Lord…the Lord appeared to Solomon the second time…And the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house…and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually…and have chosen this place to myself for a house of sacrifice.”

King Solomon sacrificed a thousand burnt offerings to God. When he did this, God appeared to Solomon in a dream and told him to ask for whatever he desired. Later on, when Solomon finished building the house of the Lord, God appeared to him again and told him that He had heard Solomon’s prayer. God was pleased with the temple Solomon had built and He promised that He would dwell in it forever.
