1.  Believe that Jesus loves you and paid a price for your sin.

John 3:16-17:  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

2.   Acknowledge that Jesus commands you to turn away from sin.

Repentance means to change; to turn away from sin and go in God’s direction.  Repentance involves a change of mind, heart, and will.  Mark 1:15:  “And (Jesus) saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”  Jesus commands that everyone turn away from their sins and believe the Gospel.

3.  Know that you have offended God.

Luke 15:17-19:  “And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!  I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.”

4.  Express godly sorrow for your sins.

2 Cor 7:10:  “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.”  Godly sorrow does not express regret only because we were caught, but godly sorrow is felt when we realize we have offended and grieved our Father God. The Holy Spirit allows us to experience godly sorrow so we can feel God's hurt.  We then make up our mind to turn away from sin.

5.  Confess and forsake your sins, believing God is faithful to forgive.

Prov 28:13:  “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”

1 John 1:9:  “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Rom 10:9:  “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

6.  Rest in Christ’s assurance that you have been made new.

2 Cor 5:17:  “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

James 4:17:  “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”  To accept Jesus is to do good.  To reject Him is sin.  Would you accept Him as your Savior today?  2 Cor 6:2:  “…now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” Heb 4:7:  “To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.”

Pray this prayer with me.

Dear Jesus,

I believe in my heart and confess with my mouth that you are the Son of God.  You died on the cross so that I may receive forgiveness of sins.  On the third day, God raised you from the dead.  I accept you as my Lord and Savior.  From this day, I make a firm commitment to serve and follow  you all the days of my life.  Thank you for forgiving all my sins.

In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
